Describe the analytical work and routine tasks
Hypothetical example: an offer uses the chemist title, while the customer scope includes sample logging, equipment cleaning and chemical analysis. Explain the actual recurring duties, decisions and outputs. Do not assume every task performed in a laboratory is professional chemistry or omit routine duties from the assessment. Break the work into recurring activities, time allocation, technical judgment, and expected deliverables. That exercise often reveals whether a title matches the actual role. Keep incidental routine tasks in the record rather than recasting them as professional analysis. The useful decision is whether the assignment can be described truthfully in terms of a listed profession before an employer fixes a start date.
Use the chemist qualification correctly
The TN chemist entry requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree. Identify the credential and supporting records relevant to the proposed profession. General laboratory experience is not a universal replacement for the listed degree. A degree from outside Canada, Mexico and the United States requires reliable foreign-credential evaluation. Match the precise degree, licence where applicable, and credential evidence to the claimed TN profession. The first review should identify whether a transcript, degree certificate, evaluation, or licensing record settles the question. Do not commission a broad résumé rewrite to fill a missing academic element. If a record is unavailable, decide early whether the assignment can be delayed or must be structured differently.
Explain the employer and client arrangement
Identify the legal employer, receiving entity, compensation and intended duration, together with who directs the work. Either a U.S. or foreign employer may support TN activity, but services to a U.S. entity solely or controllingly owned by the applicant constitute prohibited self-employment; a client or nominal supervisor does not cure that problem. A Canadian citizen may request TN status at a port of entry, or a U.S. employer may file Form I-129 with USCIS; Canadian TN applicants generally need no visa stamp. Study is allowed for TD dependants, whereas work is not. Put the employer, customer, worksite, payment stream, and daily direction on one factual chart. This helps identify which entity can attest to each fact and whether the arrangement presents a self-employment concern. A customer purchase order cannot quietly replace employment evidence. Resolve contradictory supervision language before it appears in a support letter, contract, or admission request.
